About Me:

I received my BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran. I worked a few years as an electrical engineer, a research fellow and a lecturer in Iran before I joined the Power Electronics Research Group at Northeastern University in 2013.

Research Interests:

Design, Modeling and Control of Power Converters, Aging and Failure Analysis of Metal Oxide Varistors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)

Ongoing Projects:

Thesis: Surge and Overvoltage Protection in Variable Frequency Drives
Description:Overvoltages created by voltage wave reflection have adverse effects on the motor and the drive. Furthermore, these overvoltages prevent application of a proper MOV-based Surge Protection Device (SPD) on motor terminals. In this research, we develop, build, test and evaluate a new technique to address and solve these problems.

Project: Health Monitoring and Lifetime Estimation of Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs)
Description: Metal Oxide Varistors (MOVs) are nonlinear components widely used for portection against lightning surges and overvoltage transients in power systems and electric appliances. MOVs are known to degrade over time when they discharge large surge currents. Monitoring the health and estimating the remainging lifetime of the MOVs are of critical importance to system protection and reliability.

Previous Projects:

Project: Hybrid Surge Protective Devices (HSPDs)
Description: The term "Hybrid SPD" is usually used to address those Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) That use more than one type of protective components. Various SPDs have different advantages and disadvantages. Using different types of SPDs in a coordinated way in combination with solid state electronics would help maximize the benefits and overcome the limitations of each SPD.
