Congratulations to the 2009 Student Affairs Scholarship Winners

The Student Affairs office awards scholarships to recognize the contributions of our student leaders on campus. Thomas I Atkins Social Justice Scholarship: Gidley Dorlus, ME’13 & Babatunde Ogunfemi, EE’13; The Karen T. Rigg Shining Torch Scholarship: Joyce Salomon, EE’12; The Joseph Spear Scholarship: Thomas Peacock, ME’10; The Greg Jarvis Memorial Scholarship: Stephen Asay, IE’09.

The Thomas I Atkins Social Justice Scholarship was established to honor Thomas I Atkins, the first African-American city councilor of Boston. This scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated leadership on behalf of social justice issues. The Karen Rigg Shining Torch Scholarship honors the contributions of Karen Rigg, former Vice President for Student Affairs. This awardee is seen as a shining example within their student organization through their enthusiasm and positive attitude. The Joseph Spear Scholarship recognizes outstanding contributions to student activities by students enrolled in the College of Engineering. Recipients of the Joseph Spear Scholarship must have demonstrated good citizenship and exemplary leadership abilities through their involvement in student activities.The Greg Jarvis Memorial Scholarships are named after Greg Jarvis, Northeastern alumnus and crew member aboard the Challenger space shuttle. Recipients of this scholarship must demonstrate the perseverance, integrity, spirit and pride, which Mr. Jarvis exemplified so well. 

These scholarship awards typically range from $500 to $5,000. They are administered by the Center for Spirituality, Dialogue and Service.
