Outstanding Graduate Student Award in Community Service

Congratulations to computer engineering PhD student William Tomlinson Jr. for receiving the Outstanding Graduate Student Award for Community Service by the Graduate Student Council (GSG) and the Office of the Provost.

William, a Draper Lab Fellow, has made significant contributions to Northeastern and surrounding communities. As Collegiate Initiative Chair of the Boston chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers, William has championed the creation of new scholarships and skill-building opportunities for the society’s college members. He is a board member of the March of Dimes and has raised thousands of dollars to support that organization’s mission of combating infant illnesses. William has also participated in several outreach activities aimed at inspiring young people—in particular, students of color—to pursue careers in STEM. For example, he volunteers annually at citywide forums focused on encouraging Boston-area girls to pursue STEM careers.
