SPIRAL Receives 2 Best Paper Awards at PETRA
Two papers from SPIRAL researchers received best paper awards at PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments (PETRA) conference.
The paper titled “Motor Cortex Mapping Using Active Gaussian Processes“, first authored by PhD student Ms. Razieh Faghihpirayesh, and coauthored by Drs. Tales Imbiriba, Mathew Yarossi, and Profs Eugene Tunik, Dana Brooks, and Deniz Erdogmus received the Best Technical Paper Award at PETRA 2020. This paper proposes a Bayesian experiment design methodology for efficiently mapping the motor cortex representation of muscles using transcranial magnetic stimulation and EMG measurements.
The paper titled “Prediction of Epilepsy Development in Traumatic Brain Injury Patients from Diffusion Weighted MRI” first authored by PhD student Mr. Navid Akbar advised by Prof. Erdogmus, and coauthored by collaborators Rachael Garner, Marianna La Rocca, and Dominique Duncan at USC, received one of the two Best Poster Paper Awards, specifically reserved for papers submitted in this special category. This paper investigates the informativeness of diffusion weighted MRI image features extracted from DWI of traumatic brain injury patients in predicting whether or not the patient will develop epilepsy in the future.
