Fu Receives AAMI & MedCrypt Cybersecurity Visionary Award

ECE/Khoury Professor Kevin Fu received the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) & MedCrypt Cybersecurity Visionary Award for his groundbreaking research that demonstrated that implantable devices like pacemakers can be vulnerable to hackers and his efforts to mitigate these risks. This award recognizes an individual or group who has demonstrated the vision and leadership necessary to solve some of the industry’s most critical medical device cybersecurity challenges.

In the words of two cybersecurity experts who nominated Fu for this award, he “has moved an entire industry. Through his education and outreach he has pointed to both simple solutions and more complex efforts. He has been a catalyst for bringing people together and getting them to work towards practical solutions. He pushes back when organizations balk at needed change.”
