Hemami Elected Vice President for Publication Products and Services for IEEE

Sheila Hemami, professor and chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Northeastern University, has been elected Vice President of Publication Services and Products (PSPB) for IEEE, the world’s largest professional organization advancing technology for humanity. In this role, Hemami is responsible for providing leadership in the strategy for producing, delivering, and ensuring the integrity of IEEE’s information services and products, and will serve as a member of the IEEE Board of Directors.

IEEE is a global organization with more than 430,000 members in more than 160 countries, and publishes approximately 170 transactions, journals and magazines in a variety of technical disciplines. The IEEE Xplore digital library has more than 3.5 million documents, with more than eight million downloads each month.

Hemami will be serving a one-year term, managing the oversight of policies and procedures for ensuring the quality, competitiveness and protection of IEEE’s information services, including leading the formulation of IEEE policy for protection of intellectual property; monitoring compliance of IEEE publishing activities with the IEEE Principles of Scholarly Publishing; and ruling on disciplinary actions in cases of publishing misconduct.

An IEEE Fellow, Hemami’s past IEEE experience includes serving as the IEEE PSPB Strategic Planning Committee Chair (2013, 2014); member of the IEEE PSPB Strategic Planning Committee (2011-present); and member of the IEEE PSPB Products and Services Committee (2012, 2014). Hemami served as the editor-in-chief of the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia from 2008-2010, and has been an author and reviewer of IEEE content for 20 years.
