Northeastern’s Boston Campus Hosts Inaugural Magnetics Workshop

The Inaugural NU Cross-College Magnetics Center Workshop, hosted at Northeastern’s Boston campus on May 7, 2025, brought together dozens of participants from the university’s Boston, Burlington, and Portland campuses.

The NU Cross-College Magnetics Center, a collaboration of 22 members representing the College of Science, College of Engineering, Kostas Research Institute, and the Roux Institute, is dedicated to advancing magnetic science and technology through interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.

The workshop featured tutorials delivered by Laura Lewis, distinguished university and Cabot professor, chemical engineering and mechanical and industrial engineering; Ryan Koppes, associate professor of chemical engineering; Alberto De la Torre Duran, assistant professor of physics; and George Hadjipanayis, affiliated faculty of chemical engineering.

Xufeng Zhang, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, and Paul Stevenson, assistant professor of physics, presented technical talks.

Kin Chung Fong, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering and physics, moderated a thought-provoking panel that featured Stevenson; Greg Fiete, professor of physics; Zac Perry, Northeastern’s senior research development officer; and Srinivas Tadigadapa, senior vice provost for institutes, centers, and impact engines, and professor of electrical and computer engineering.

29 posters were presented, with six Best Poster Awards selected by a panel of five judges.

This event was made possible through the generous support of the College of Science, College of Engineering, AJA International, Quantum Design, and the Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials.
