Yifan is a shining example of Northeastern’s experiential PhD model. He has completed two co-op assignments in industry—at Dell/EMC and Advanced Micro Devices. During these assignments, he has made significant contributions, resulting in collaborative research articles and multiple patent applications. At Dell/EMC, he helped improve the performance of some of the company’s high-performance products, work that resulted in three patent applications and in winning new business from major customers. His work at AMD was closely related to his research at Northeastern, and after presenting it to the company, AMD decided to adopt a similar methodology in its simulation toolsets. He also received an offer of full-time employment upon graduation.
