Enabling Engineering Students Design Inexpensive Wheelchair Sensor System
Students in Northeastern’s Enabling Engineering class designed a wheelchair rear-sensor system for a resident at The Boston Home, a care center for individuals with progressive neurological conditions. The system met the resident’s needs at a fraction of the cost of a typical wheelchair sensor system.

Maya De Los Santos, electrical and computer engineering, Kaitlyn Ramesh, bioengineering, and Madeline Szoo, chemical engineering and biochemistry, were nominated for the 2024 Barry Goldwater Scholarship—a highly competitive, merit-based award for outstanding students in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering who are interested in pursuing careers in research.

Electrical Engineer’s Path From the Dominican Republic to Northeastern University
Cesar Manuel De Oleo, E’26, electrical engineering, participated in the Undergraduate Program for Leaders In Future Transformation (UPLIFT) program. As a first-year student, he participated in research on parallel computing. He has learned buildup of C programming, algorithms, libraries, and programming in CUDA and help his research.

Engineering Students’ Camera Mount for Wheelchair Users is Ready for its Close-up
Northeastern University’s Enabling Engineering club designed a new durable, low-cost wheelchair camera mount that brings independence to wheelchair filmmakers by eliminating their dependence on others for setting up shots and making filmmaking more accessible.
