ECE PhDs Win Best Student Paper Award at PETRA 2019
ECE PhD students Mo Han, PhD’22, Yagmur Gunay, PhD’21, and Ilkay Yildiz, PhD’22, received the best student paper award at PETRA 2019, which took place in Rhodes, Greece, for their paper “From Hand-perspective Visual Information to Grasp Type Probabilities: Deep Learning via Ranking Labels”.

NU Team to Compete at Mars Society’s University Rover Challenge
The Northeastern University Mars Rover Team, which is made up of 35 students from civil engineering, electrical & computer engineering, mechanical engineering, science, and computer science majors, is heading to Utah to compete in the 2019 Mars Society’s University Rover Challenge.

ECE PhD Candidate Caiwen Ding to become an Assistant Professor at University of Connecticut
Our ECE PhD candidate Caiwen Ding (advisor Prof. Yanzhi Wang) has accepted the offer as an Assistant Professor in Department of Computer Science and Engineering at University of Connecticut, starting Fall 2019. He works on hardware acceleration of deep learning algorithms, deep learning applications, cyber-physical systems, etc.

PhD Student Wins Outstanding Presentation Award in 2019 IEEE APEC
ECE PhD student Ehsan Afshari from Professor Mahshid Amirabadi’s group received the award for the Outstanding Presentation at 2019 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC) held in Anaheim, CA. The award was given for the research on the development of multiport universal power converters.
